The Wonders of Tuscany’s Art
If you’re thinking of spending some of your next vacations in Tuscany, you’re likely to know that there’s simply so much on offer. This world-renowned region of Italy provides so much for its visitors to see and do, whether it’s exploring the traditional Chianti vineyards or adventure tours in Florence. There really is no end to the options that are available to those planning on visiting Tuscany in 2021.
One particular aspect that you might be interested in is Tuscany’s art. With many of the masters coming from this particular region, such as Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo, it shouldn’t come as any surprise that there’s plenty of art history to dive into.
How would you describe Tuscany?
When you ask somebody a question like “What is Tuscany known for?”, art won’t usually come to mind immediately. The same can’t be said for Florence though, one of the main cities of the region. Private Tuscany tours from Florence can be fantastic and could give you a closer look into the artistic legacy of the region. Plus, you’re likely to find the best art Tuscany has to offer in museums like the Uffizi Gallery.
The many beautiful paintings of Tuscany
While there’s no doubt that Tuscan pictures of the countryside or even famous Tuscan landscape paintings are fantastic, we want to focus on the artwork that resides in this part of Italy. If you’re looking for Tuscan wall art, you won’t find any here.
One excellent example of a beautiful, iconic Tuscan painting is the Birth of Venus by Botticelli (located in the Uffizi Gallery). There’s no questioning that Sandro Botticelli is one of the masters of the early Italian Renaissance and as a resident of Florence, it’s only fitting that one of his best pieces remains in the city.
Madonna and Child With Two Angels by Filippo Lippi is another classic piece of Tuscan art that you can find in galleria degli Uffizi. You’ll also find Madonna of the Goldfinch by Raphael here too, another one of Tuscany’s art pieces that is loved around the globe.
Outside of the museums and art galleries, you might also see some fantastic Tuscan paintings in chapels and cathedrals across the region. Again, Florence is one of the best places to look, thanks to the many beautiful frescoes you’ll find in the churches here.
Statues in Tuscany
There are also several great sculptures that you might want to take a look at during your time in Tuscany.
Donatello’s Bronze David statue is located in the Bargello Museum in Florence, and the other iconic David statue by Michelangelo (easily one of the most famous of Tuscany’s art pieces) can be found in the Galleria dell’ Accademia (also in Florence).
You can also see more of Michelangelo’s sculptures in Florence too, like the burial chapels commissioned for the Medici.
Why is Tuscany important in art history?
Alongside the great Tuscan paintings and pieces that are located in this particular destination, there’s a lot more that makes the region an essential part of history in the world of art.
When you consider that the Italian Renaissance started here, or that several of the greatest artists in Italy’s history hail from this region, it’s really not hard to see why. Tuscany’s art is gorgeous, but its impact on the art world is even greater.
Will you find any Tuscany paintings for sale?
While buying the real deal is often out of the question, replicas of famous pieces of Tuscany artwork aren’t often too hard to find. In fact, you’ll probably find plenty of good Tuscany art prints online, even full Tuscany canvas wall art.
For something more authentic, you could look for paintings of the Tuscany countryside or even just keepsakes from the Uffizi Gallery giftshop – generally, the options for a Tuscany painting or any related items are endless.
