The Best Scenic Routes in Tuscany
Anyone who wants to experience the beauty of Tuscany should consider driving along one of the many amazing scenic routes in the region – and in most cases, those who don’t will truly be missing out on something spectacular.
No matter how you choose to travel from one destination to another, you’re going to see just why this part of central Italy is so well known for its beauty. To get the very best experience possible during your vacation, it’s often a good idea to learn a little bit about a few of the many great scenic routes between cities.
Ride through Chianti
If you take a detour off of the main road while heading to Florence from Monteriggioni, you may come across a beautiful little village called Castelina, which is located in Chianti. You’re likely to find that there are quite a few good vineyards here, so you might want to make a stop (or several) to try some of delicious wines that are produced here.
On your journey, be sure to pay a visit to Castello Ricasoli and Castello di Brolio – two vineyards that are well known for their truly amazing wines.
Route SS438
The drive between Siena and Acsiano is truly beautiful, thanks to the fact that route SS438 offers stunning views of everything you’d expect to see from a Tuscan landscape – rolling plains, cypress lanes, and misty hills.
The views along this drive are stunning all year round, but you’re likely to find that it’s even more spectacular during spring. This is because of the beautiful green colors at this time of year – which most would prefer to the sunburned yellows in summer. This is a fairly short route, but that doesn’t mean that it’s any less impressive.
Val d’Orcia valley
It’s no secret that Val d’Orcia is a picturesque valley with truly stunning landscapes, with several routes that lead to some of the region’s most popular cities. Whether you plan to do sightseeing or not during your stay, you’re sure to be left in wonder at the beauty that this part of Tuscany has to offer. Montepulciano and Pienza are just two of the great cities that you can get to through this valley, so you’re sure to get a good opportunity to experience this scenic route for yourself.
There are a number of different roads in Val d’Orcia, as well as many villages that can be found when traveling along the routes. One of the best drives through here is the road from Radifocani to La Foce – which is home to one of the most famous cypress valleys in the whole of Tuscany.
