How to Explore the Tuscan Countryside
There’s no doubt that anybody paying a visit to the Tuscan countryside on their Italian getaways will be left in awe of the region’s beauty. From the culture of the traditional towns and villages, to the natural splendor of the endless fields; there’s a reason why the countryside can make for some of the best Tuscan day trips.
If you’re interested in having a Tuscan adventure of your own, you’ve come to the right place. Not only do we have plenty of information on how to make the most of a vacation in the countryside in Tuscany, but our team also offers premium tours that we’re certain you’d enjoy.
What is there to do in the Tuscany countryside?
For the most part, everybody can agree that the countryside in Tuscany is simply perfect – and outside of the beauty, there’s plenty for you to see and do during your Italy tours.
From visiting the Chianti vineyards, to immersing yourself in the Tuscan lifestyle as you explore the small hilltop towns; there really is so much on offer. Here are just a few ideas of what you could do as you go about your Tuscany tour:
- It goes without saying, but it’s well worth taking the time to drive around and absorb the wonderful scenery of rural Tuscany, particularly in areas like Val d’Orcia
- Getting food from towns in the countryside is a must for any Italian getaways, and with the fantastic Tuscan countryside dishes you could try, this region is certainly no exception
- From Montepulciano, to Montalcino; there are simply so many great destinations for wine tours in Tuscany, especially in the countryside
Where is the Tuscan countryside?
There’s plenty of countryside to enjoy all around the region, with gems like Radda and Castelliana in the Chianti area, and Crete Senesi. Whatever it is you’re hoping to do during your day tours of Tuscany, there’s a good chance that you’ll be able to take in the beauty of the countryside along the way.
If you do want to experience the best of the countryside in Tuscany, we’d certainly suggest visiting the central area between Florence and Siena, especially if you’re going to be stopping by either of these destinations during your stay.
Where to base yourself in Tuscany
If you’re not coming on one of our Tuscany tours, you might want to consider where to base yourself during your vacation.
There are some fantastic destinations across the region, but it’s certainly worth considering staying in the Siena area if you’re hoping to see as much of the countryside and cultural beauty as possible while you’re touring Tuscany. Siena is the perfect place to travel to and from if you want to visit areas like Val d’Orcia, Pienza, Vallombrosa, and more.
Florence is another great place to stay. You could enjoy a day trip from Florence, but there are advantages to setting the base of your vacation here. The architecture, foods, and surrounding beauty are all factors that can make visiting Florence a truly wonderful experience. Nearby, you can pay a visit to areas like Mugello and Lucca, both of which can be worth checking out.
It’s also good to think about what kind of property you want to stay in. In our opinion, those hoping to get to know rural Tuscany better are generally going to prefer staying in Tuscany villas. There may be some great hotels in Tuscany, but nothing beats the charming, quaint feel of a villa in the countryside.
